What are the 5 Food Groups? #RESVT

This weeks nutrition conversation in P.E. had to do with the 5 food groups and why we have different food groups.  I believe it's very important to get kids thinking about the foods that they put into their bodies at a young age.  Young scholars might not always help with the grocery shopping but they do have a strong influence on what foods are bought at the store.  My goal is to provide information so that scholars are able to make well informed decisions about the foods they eat.  Finally, I want scholars to begin to understand that the foods they consume play a vital role in making their bodies function properly in the classroom and in the gym.

The five food groups are Proteins, Dairy, Grains, Fruits, and Vegetables.  The reason that we have different food groups is to help us eat a balanced diet.  Each food group contains important nutrients to keep our body healthy.   Balance is the key.  Here is a link to the USDA's My Plate page with more information on food groups.

Nice work girls!
