It's been a busy start to the year at #RESVT Check out what we have been doing in PE during the month of September

It's been a awesome start to the school year at RES.  Mr. G is really excited to be back from paternity and to be working in such a wonderful place.  I always love the start to the year!!! Meeting the new PK and K students is one of my favorite parts the year.  One of the best things about being a PE teacher is that I get to work with every kid in Richmond for 6 years now that all the PK kids have PE. That's a great opportunity to have a positive inffluence on  a lot of kids and hopefully inspire all of them to enjoy movement.

So far PK-1st grade we have been working on teamwork skills, locomotor movements, and introducing students to the various expectations in PE.  We have also been working on our manipulative skills with a variety of different
objects such as scarves and balloons.

2nd Grade has been working on biking this fall. In PE we bike K-2nd grade.  K & 1st grade bike in the spring and focus on learning basic biking skills so that they can become independent bikers.  Hopefully by 2nd grade most of students are able to ride without trainning wheels and the focus is on bike safety and refinement of their skills so that they are aware of the rules of the road and bike etiquette.

I wanted to share a video of a 2nd grade student taking a ride without trainning wheels for the first time in PE.  He has been working so hard and was really nervous to try.  I'm super proud of him.  Keep up the good work buddy!!!!!

In 3rd grade students have been working on a tennis unit.  We have been developing our racquet skills, learning the forehand and backhand shots, and how to underhand serve.  On Wednesday, October 4th we will be going to the Burlington Tennis Club for a tennis field trip.

Finally in 4th grade we have been learning to
rollerblade in PE.  This is my first time teaching rollerblading and my first time ever on skates.  I was a little nervous to teach this unit as it was outside my comfort zone.  However it's been one of my favorite units.  The kids are improving everyday and are really into
learning to skate.
