Get Up & Move: Walk-A-Thon/Field Day #RESVT #CESUVT #EDUVT #EDCHAT

Dear RES Parents & Guardians,

I’m proud and extremely honored to be part of the RES school family. It’s been an amazing first year for me. We have accomplished a great deal this school year, and I see even greater possibilities on the horizon.  This winter we piloted a ski/snowboard program at Cochran’s that we named Snow Motion, promoting life time fitness and increasing opportunities for physical activity in and out of the school day.  Snow Motion is free to scholars and occurs during the school day to eliminate barriers created by lack of equipment, transportation, disability, and other factors. Currently, nearly 50% of our student population has never been on the slopes.

My plan is to establish an annual community-based fundraiser that will bring the RES family together in support of teaching kids to be active for life, while making skiing/snowboarding accessible to every child at RES.  In place of Wellness Day, on Monday, June 9th, we will sponsor the 1st Annual RES Get Up and Move Walk-A-Thon & Field Day.  There will be music provided by SuperSounds, a BBQ, fun games, prizes, and much more.  This event will be a positive way to celebrate the end of the school year while supporting a cause that will teach kids to be happy, healthy, and active for life.

Mr. G needs your help!!!  My GOAL is to raise enough money through the Walk-A-Thon, to allow every scholar at RES to participate in the Snow Motion Program at Cochran’s.  Money will also go towards creating opportunities for scholars to learn to golf as part of the First Tee Program that we are piloting this year.  Any extra money we raise will go towards updating P.E. equipment.  All money raised will stay in Richmond to help local kids and to support a local business.  There are almost 300 scholars at RES. Together we can make this program a reality.  Just imagine the positive benefits bringing our community together to support physical activity will have on every child in Richmond.  As a school and community we are letting kids know that being active is important, and no child will be left out.

We want to keep our efforts both positive and safe, so ask that you do not do any door to door fundraising.  Feel free to ask family and friends if they would like to help support our efforts.  A Sponsorship  of scholars  would be  one lump amount,  not for each lap walked.  Checks can be made out to Richmond Elementary School Note: Walk-a-Thon and sent to your classroom teacher at anytime.

I will be sending an email to all parents/guardians with a link to an online donation page.  The page will have photos, video, and information about our cause.  Our hope is that this option will allow you to easily email friends and family members to help support your child.  Donations can be made directly online or sent in via check.  There is an option for individual scholars or small groups to customize their own donation pages.  I will be available to help and or answer any questions about the online donation page. Thanks for your help in making our dreams a reality.

Sincerely,

Brian Godfrey
P.E. teacher
