EQ of The Week

This month's EQ's will be centered around the Dairy food group.  Ymmm dairy, probably my favorite food group.  This weeks Purple Paw Award goes to a scholar in Mrs. Darby's class for some wonderful research on the benefits of spinach.

Essential Questions of the week February, 3rd 2014

1. What kinds of foods are in the dairy food group?

All fluid milk products and many foods made from milk are considered part of the dairy food group. Most Dairy Group choices should be fat-free or low-fat. Foods made from milk that retain their calcium content are part of the group. Foods made from milk that have little to no calcium, such as cream cheese, cream, and butter, are not part of the dairy food group. Calcium-fortified soymilk (soy beverage) is also part of the Dairy Group.

2. What are the health benefits of eating dairy?

Consuming dairy products provides health benefits – especially improved bone health. Foods in the Dairy Group provide nutrients that are vital for health and maintenance of your body. These nutrients include calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein.

1. Dairy foods contain calcium, which helps build strong bones.

2. Dairy foods, contain protein, which helps build strong muscles.
